'Mulan' is much more than a remake

We also anticipate that there will be no nice Mushu or people singing while going to war. This is a true story, with a woman who becomes a legend thanks to her strength and talent in battle. However, the director wanted to pay her own tribute to the original animated film, respecting some detail that will make us smile. For example? There will be an epic moment in the film where an epic theme also resonates. And we will have a Witch on the "bad guys" side.

During his time in Madrid we have seen three scenes of the film that allow us to confirm in broad strokes that we are facing a realistic story, with many fighting scenes that could well be perfect choreographies, and a tone that moves away from Hollywood to get closer to the Great Chinese directors. We do not have the video yet in our power to be able to share it, but we already anticipate you, the work that Caro has achieved points to the top, even for those who do not see with good eyes to have left aside their childish pull.

The first scene shown is an intimate moment between Mulán and his father. As you will remember, the young woman decides to dress as a man so she can go fight instead of her father. In this scene we see Mulan's father taking his sword with a trembling pulse. Then he prepares to sharpen the tool while Mulán looks at him in shock. It is a dramatic moment, attentive to details and with a very deep conversation between father and daughter. She asks about the war, he tells her that in order to talk about her, she must have lived it. He confides that he must have courage and take care of his mother and sister (the new character that Caro has decided to introduce and that will serve as the antagonist as far as the personality of the protagonist is concerned). Then when he leaves, Mulan takes the sword making the decision that will mark the history of the film.

We jump to the second scene. We see Mulan already turned into a man, with her hair pulled back, in the middle of a training session within the Emperor's Chinese army. The battle is coming. She trains with another military. At first he wins; but suddenly, we can enjoy Mulán's mastery with the sword. He is, by the way, Chen Honghui. This is another of the new characters introduced, which will be played by Yoson An, and will become a friend (and something else) of the protagonist.

Indignation among the fans of the real action film "Mulan" for the elimination of Mushu

Mulan, a young Chinese only daughter of the Fa family, instead of looking for a boyfriend, like her friends, tries by all means to enlist in the imperial army to prevent her elderly father from being called up to defend the Emperor from harassment of the Huns. When the imperial emissary carries out the order to recruit the men of all families, Mulan will impersonate a soldier and undergo hard training until he deserves the esteem and confidence of the rest of his squad.

We were all happier than partridges with the advances of Mulan, but millions of fans have just mounted in anger. It was the year 1998 and Disney was right again. After his golden years with one clasic after another, the mouse company saw as Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Damme and Hercules lowered the level one step. However, Mulan recovered much of the punch. Despite not being considered as one of the major works of the company, the truth is that the tape was a real wonder.

March 27, 2020 is the date chosen for the arrival at the cinemas around the world of Mulan. However, the film will come with an absence as large as irreplaceable: Mushu. The funny and charming creature to which Eddie Murphy lent his voice to the original film will fall out of the film, as confirmed by Niki Caro, director of the film. Similarly, Caro also clarified that much of the songs will disappear in this version of real image.

The director of Mulán justifies the absence of Mushu and reveals if there will be songs in the remake of real action

The director Niki Caro presented this Friday in Madrid the first images of the new version of real action of Mulán, which will hit theaters on March 27. During the presentation held at the Film Academy, and in which the costume designer Bina Daigeler, the filmmaker said that this new version of Mulán "there will be humor, epic, battles and scenarios

It was not so resounding when referring to the mythical songs of the 1998 Disney animated classic, because although at one point he said there would be no songs, since they do not fit with that more realistic vision that they want to give to the story, in another answer left open the possibility that the protagonist, Liu Yifei, will sing during the film.

"She is a magnificent fighter, a great swordswoman, rides a horse and sings very well. Can I say that?", She interrupted herself aware that she could have revealed more information than she was allowed. "She sang for me," tried to clarify the director who said several times that "when you go to war you can not go singing." Of course, moments later the director gave clues that some of the most iconic songs of the animated film will sound at one of the most epic moments of the new version.

The one that seems to be will not be Mushu, the charismatic red dragon that accompanied the protagonist in the animated film and that is, in the words of the director herself, "irreplaceable." That does not mean that there are no mythological and magical elements in this adventure, which will try to find a balance between realism and fantasy.

Of course, he made it clear that Mulán "is not a superhero" and that he has no powers or does unlikely things, but is a "strong woman" and full of courage.Caro defined this Mulán as a journey "from the intimate to the epic "that will make the public" cry and laugh "and said we live" the best time "to recover a story like this young woman who reveals herself against the injustice to fight for her family. He also said he hopes that a project as big as this will "open the door for more female directors."

3 surprises that will bring the new film of 'Mulán', according to its director

Mulán's new film, which is expected to premiere on March 27 this year, will not include songs from the animated classic soundtrack, film director Nikki Caro told BuzzFeed.

However, it is not the only surprise of this new version of the young warrior.

These are the details that Caro released:

1. There will be no songs, according to the director because it is a more realistic version.

"We don't usually sing when we go to war," he said.

2. However, a tribute will be paid to the songs that appear in the animated version.

"We pay tribute to the music of the animated film in a very significant way," he explained.

He explained that he has nothing against animation because the songs are great and, if he could have put them in, he would have done it.

3. The new movie will have references to the original animation.

"The fans of the classic can find some really iconic moments," he added and added that the film sought to portray the romance of the original.

In the new version, Liu Yifei is the actress who plays Mulán, while Jason Scott Lee brings the evil Bori Khan to life.

Scott was about to be out of the film because it did not fit the vision that Niki had of the villain, but he managed to stay after exercising and maintaining an organic diet, according to the actor in his Instagram account.

"It was a bit round, so to speak, and the villain I had in mind didn't look like this," the actor wrote on the social network citing the director's words.

"We had a phenomenal coach with us all the time and defined Jason in two months with only organic food and exercise," he said.
